MEN – David De Gea agrees new 5-year-deal with Manchester United

As per a report from the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United and David De Gea have reached an agreement on the terms of a new 5-year contract.

World-class

De Gea, a 27-year-old Spanish international, has been on the books at Old Trafford since 2011, when he joined the club from Atletico Madrid.

A shaky first couple of seasons for the 29-time capped La Roja international has since seen De Gea develop into Manchester United’s most important player, with many of the opinion that his performances over the last couple of campaigns mean De Gea has now established himself as the finest goalkeeper in world football.

Standout performer

While the Atletico youth product was in sensational form throughout the 2016/17 campaign, this past season incredibly saw De Gea take his shot-stopping feats to an even superior level, with a graph comparing the Spaniard’s Premier League statistics with the likes of Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris, Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois and Ederson of Manchester City having gone viral online in March:

Staying put

As has been common knowledge for some time now, De Gea’s rise to prominence at Old Trafford has led to European champions Real Madrid being repeatedly linked with a move for the Spanish shot-stopper, with Los Blancos on the lookout for a high-profile name to replace Keylor Navas.

However, Manchester United’s absolute insistence that their no.1 has never been for sale has since led to Real turning their attention elsewhere in their shot-stopper search, with the capital giants said to be closing on a move for AS Roma sensation Alisson.

And, as per the aforementioned report from the Manchester Evening News, De Gea looks set to be rewarded for his loyalty with a new and improved contract at Old Trafford, amid claims that the former Atletico man has agreed on the terms of a new 5-year-deal.

As such, any and all links with a Manchester exit look set to be put to bed imminently, with De Gea ready to commit his long-term future to United.
