Neymar hailed as ‘natural heir’ to Cristiano Ronaldo

The speculation over Neymar leaving PSG for Real Madrid is once again hotting up, and it seems that the player could be the one to replace Cristiano Ronaldo at the club.

Ronaldo isn’t getting any younger, and there could well be the case that Neymar even plays alongside Ronaldo for a couple of years before Ronaldo leaves Real Madrid and Neymar takes over as their talisman.

Former Real Madrid sporting director Jorge Valdano claimed Neymar is on the same level as Ronaldo.

“I must say that Neymar is at the level of Real Madrid,” Valdano told L’Equipe.

“For me, he is the closest heir to Cristiano Ronaldo.

“It seems to me a legitimate aspiration to bet on a player of his talent that will reach its fullness in the next five years.”

Barcelona

One thing that will certainly happen is a reaction from Barcelona and their players should Neymar leave PSG for Real Madrid.

There have been allegations that Neymar only decided to go to PSG for the year in order to then make a move to Real Madrid – given he would never have been sold by Barcelona to their La Liga rivals directly, and many people would think that was very underhand if it turns out to be the case.

“Of course they (Barcelona) will be really unhappy with Neymar playing for Real Madrid – they were already sad because he left to play in France, right?” Rivaldo told Express Sport.

“And for Real Madrid, which happens to be Barcelona’s main rival, they won’t enjoy it much, of course.

“Right now, it’s all speculation. They’ll for sure look for a solution so they can both play, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is already 33 years-old, maybe he can retire, I’m not sure, I’m not sure of what Real Madrid thinks of doing while bringing Neymar there.”
