Real Madrid told they should consider Gareth Southgate as next manager

Real Madrid

FA chief Dan Ashworth has backed Gareth Southgate ahead of the World Cup, and claimed the England manager is so good that he could even manage Real Madrid.

Ashworth noted that not only is Southgate a top class manager, but that he’s someone who is a good leader in terms of thinking about other players and being empathetic – something that has shone through since he took over the England side.

“When Gareth does leave, let’s hope it is because he has done such a good job that he has been whisked off to Real Madrid,” The Express report Ashworth said.

“Gareth is an exceptional leader. He’s empathetic, he’s articulate, he’s got high emotional intelligence, he’s got a really good understanding of connecting the players and getting the best out of the players and the staff.

“So what’s ended up happening is that Gareth, and I have to say it’s Gareth, has brought together a way of working for the players and the staff that it is one big group of people. And that’s him.

“That’s how he worked with the Under-21s as well. So he’s been instrumental on that and has to take the credit.”

England

Of course, the main priority now for Southgate is the fact he needs to get England through the group stages of the World Cup and into the knockout stages of the tournament.

The Three Lions are in a decent group – and with the form of the players and the mood in the camp being one of the best it’s ever been, the players will be hoping to top the group, especially given how well they know the Belgium players, given most of them play their football in Europe and the Premier League.

To get to the semi-finals of the competition would be an outstanding achievement, and while no one is counting their chickens yet, England seem more positive than they have in years.
