Argentina 1 – Iceland 1
Could Argentina fail to get out of their 2018 World Cup group?
That’s a definite possibility this Sunday after Argentina drew 1-1 with Iceland.
Argentina took control of the match in the 19th minute. Man City striker Sergio Aguero scored a brilliant goal to put the South Americans in the lead.
But Iceland were only behind for a few minutes. Alfred Finnbogason scored a historic goal for Iceland in their first ever World Cup match.
Leo Messi’s missed penalty
Nevertheless, Argentina should still have won the contest.
La Albiceleste won a penalty just after the hour mark, and Leo Messi took responsibility over the spot-kick.
However the Barcelona star stunned the world as he failed to score.
Icelandic keeper Hannes Halldorsson correctly picked the side Messi aimed for, and the penalty was saved.

Israel conspiracy theory
Argentina only played one warm-up match before the World Cup. That was a friendly against minnows Haiti.
The Argentines were suppose to play Israel in a friendly a few weeks ago, but that match was cancelled amid political problems.
After Messi missed his penalty against Iceland, Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman posited a reason for why Messi messed up. He tweeted:
In the Argentina against Iceland game we saw just how much Messi needed the warm-up game against Israel.
Arab Israeli lawmaker Ahmed Tibi also got involved in the Messi chat. He tweeted:
Who was happier that Messi missed his penalty today?
It’s worth noting that Messi has missed four penalties in his last seven attempts for Argentina and Barcelona.
